A Supercharacter Analogue for Normality
Diaconis and Isaacs define a supercharacter theory for algebra groups over a
finite field by constructing certain unions of conjugacy classes called
superclasses and certain reducible characters called supercharacters. This work
investigates the properties of algebra subgroups which are unions
of some set of the superclasses of ; we call such subgroups supernormal.
After giving a few useful equivalent formulations of this definition, we show
that products of supernormal subgroups are supernormal and that all normal
pattern subgroups are supernormal. We then classify the set of supernormal
subgroups of , the group of unipotent upper triangular matrices over
the finite field \FF_q, and provide a formula for the number of such
subgroups when is prime. Following this, we give supercharacter analogues
for Clifford's theorem and Mackey's "method of little groups." Specifically, we
show that a supercharacter restricted to a supernormal subgroup decomposes as a
sum of supercharacters with the same degree and multiplicity. We then describe
how the supercharacters of an algebra group of the form U_\fkn = U_\fkh
\ltimes U_\fka, where U_\fka is supernormal and \fka^2=0, are parametrized
by U_\fkh-orbits of the supercharacters of U_\fka and the supercharacters
of the stabilizer subgroups of these orbits.Comment: 35 page
Symbolic Computation of Variational Symmetries in Optimal Control
We use a computer algebra system to compute, in an efficient way, optimal
control variational symmetries up to a gauge term. The symmetries are then used
to obtain families of Noether's first integrals, possibly in the presence of
nonconservative external forces. As an application, we obtain eight independent
first integrals for the sub-Riemannian nilpotent problem (2,3,5,8).Comment: Presented at the 4th Junior European Meeting on "Control and

On the inertia of power electronics converters
Electrical power systems are going through a transition in its energy matrix. Renewable energy sources based generation and distributed generation grow in number. There is a concern among academics and system operators that the lack of spinning mass’ inertia in these new generating units will negatively contribute to frequency stability in electrical power systems. However, there is not an adequate established method for quantifying the contribution a power electronics based generating unit provides to grid frequency stability. This work seeks to define such a method and to analyze control techniques from the point of view of contribution to electrical power systems frequency stability.

As altitude increases partial oxygen pressure decreases and this situation may lead to early stages of hypoxia affecting pilot’s capabilities to perform simple tasks. In addition temperature also changes as altitude increases. All these factors combined in several ways may affect significantly the capability of a pilot to conduct a safe flight.
Some work has been developed in this area and results show that even small changes in altitude can decrease pilot’s oxygen level significantly. Thus, as pilot’s behavior and flying capabilities can be affected, flight safety may be compromise too.
This work is generally focused on the acquisition and study of flight operational and physiological data, to perform such objectives data acquired from the aircraft contains several items as geographic coordinates, attitude, altitude, speed, g-load, heading, absolute pressure and temperature inside the cabin; also data acquired from the pilot contains cerebral oximetry, and electroencephalogram (EEG) and electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters.
During the flight pilot’s own safety and comfort are important issues so that we developed a portable system that may be installed and operated in a safe and ergonomic way inside a light (small) aircraft cabin. This equipment is also flexible enough so that it may be used inside a hypobaric chamber or in a flight simulator to test prior a real flight some specific pilot’s reactions to different flight scenarios.
The specific objective of this work is to report the acquisition, processing and monitoring of flight data collected directly and in real time from the aircraft and the pilot, so it may be analyzed to determine pilot’s major physiological changes and the consequents alterations of his flying capabilities.
Taking in account either the results of this work or the flight safety boundaries we also sustain the basis for a revision of the actual European legislation for pilot licensing.xvii
Superclasses and supercharacters of normal pattern subgroups of the unipotent upper triangular matrix group
Let denote the group of unipotent upper-triangular matrices
over a fixed finite field \FF_q, and let U_\cP denote the pattern subgroup
of corresponding to the poset \cP. This work examines the superclasses
and supercharacters, as defined by Diaconis and Isaacs, of the family of normal
pattern subgroups of . After classifying all such subgroups, we describe
an indexing set for their superclasses and supercharacters given by set
partitions with some auxiliary data. We go on to establish a canonical
bijection between the supercharacters of U_\cP and certain \FF_q-labeled
subposets of \cP. This bijection generalizes the correspondence identified by
Andr\'e and Yan between the supercharacters of and the \FF_q-labeled
set partitions of . At present, few explicit descriptions appear
in the literature of the superclasses and supercharacters of infinite families
of algebra groups other than \{U_n : n \in \NN\}. This work signficantly
expands the known set of examples in this regard.Comment: 28 page
Potential use of the anticonvulsants in the outpatient treatment of alcohol dependence
Currently three medications (disulfiram, naltrexone and acamprosate) are approved by the FDA to treat alcohol dependence by the FDA. The classical anticonvulsive drugs are rarely employed as an alternative because of their side effects, but the latest generation of anticonvulsants could be useful. The anticonvulsants can be a alternative to BZD and other pharmacological treatments in the prevention of complications during the detoxification therapy, because of the absence of addictive properties and a better adverse effects profile than classical anticonvulsant drugs. Anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine, valproic acid, gabapentin and topiramate have shown to be excellent treatment for alcohol withdrawal and for the prevention of alcohol relapse. Although none of these agents have been approved by the FDA yet, there is growing evidence in the literature to support their use.

O tema do presente trabalho é “A Criação
comunicativa e consequente personalização do conteúdo informativo.
Work performed under the Master's in Journalism at the University Fernando Pessoa,
who emerges as the culmination of an entire educational process aimed at obtaining a
Masters degree in Journalism. The theme of this work is "The Creation and
Implementation of a tactical program in interactive broadcasts of football and
basketball".
The relevance of this issue relates to a new reality in regard to access to information by
the public due to the decentralization of communicative intelligence and subsequent
customization of information content.
This study aimed to evaluate the possibility of creation and the consequent imposition
of a tactical system for interactive sports broadcasts, including technological aspects and
advantages / disadvantages that entails.
In order to achieve these objectives, was perfomed a descriptive and contextual study
(based on the presented literature), produced an online site and interviewed three
television commentators, specializing in football and basketball.
Finally, we present the most important aspects related to the project, concluding that the
tactical program devised puts into practice the principles of the “Post-Information Era"
and improved largely the way that viewers watch and understand television broadcasts
of football and basketball.
The tactical interactive program is an important supplement to the public, allowing it to
understand the tactical explanations of the commentators and view matches the way that
best understands (putting into practice the principle of decentralization and selfcustomization
of information content)
n=423; >80anos, n=174) e caracterizados relativamente a parâmetros demográficos,
Efectivamente vários estudos consubstanciam a realidade demonstrada nesta investigação,
abordagem agressiva.Introduction
The acute coronary syndromes are the major cause of morbidity and mortality in the older
population. Studies suggest 80% of deaths from coronary artery disease occur in patients over
the age of 65.
The delay in seeking medical help, atypical clinical presentation, co-morbidities conditions,
inferior tolerance to ischemia and impaired cardiac function are causes of the poor prognosis
of these syndromes in elderly.
Improving the survival of this high risk group demands the knowledge of the physiopathology
of elderly and more promptly diagnosis in order to choose the more effective therapeutic
strategy.
Objective
Compare the mortality rate and major adverse cardiac events at 1, 6 and 12 months in patients
over 80 years, hospitalized for Acute Coronary Syndrome, with patients aged between 70 and
80 years.
Methods
The 597 consecutive patients were divided into 2 groups according to age (] 70, 80], n = 423;
> 80 years, n = 174) and characterized with regard to demographics, previous diseases, drug
habits, analytical results, Killip class and therapeutic approach. We used the Kaplan-Meyer to
describe the survival and major adverse cardiac events.
Results
Statistical analysis showed no significant difference regarding the prevalence of important
risk factors for mortality in acute coronary syndromes, including ejection fraction, Killip
class, blood glucose and the maximum troponin levels on admission. It was not found a
significant increase in mortality rate (1, 6 and 12 months) and major adverse cardiac events
(1, 6 and 12 months) in both groups.
Nevertheless, the group older than 80 years underwent an invasive strategy less frequently
(30.5 vs. 49.9%, p <0.001).
Conclusion
Indeed several studies substantiate the reality demonstrated in this research, namely that the
choice of an early invasive strategy (angiography and possible revascularization) declines
with age. On the other hand, the greatest benefit of this strategy, translated into the effective
reduction of mortality and re-infarction in the long term, is obtained by individuals at greatest
risk, which includes the elderly. Therefore, was not the fear of complications, it would make
sense to treat acute coronary syndromes in the elderly with an aggressive approach
mt5se: An Open Source Framework for Building Autonomous Traders
Autonomous trading robots have been studied in artificial intelligence area
for quite some time. Many AI techniques have been tested for building
autonomous agents able to trade financial assets. These initiatives include
traditional neural networks, fuzzy logic, reinforcement learning but also more
recent approaches like deep neural networks and deep reinforcement learning.
Many developers claim to be successful in creating robots with great
performance when simulating execution with historical price series, so called
backtesting. However, when these robots are used in real markets frequently
they present poor performance in terms of risks and return. In this paper, we
propose an open source framework, called mt5se, that helps the development,
backtesting, live testing and real operation of autonomous traders. We built
and tested several traders using mt5se. The results indicate that it may help
the development of better traders. Furthermore, we discuss the simple
architecture that is used in many studies and propose an alternative multiagent
architecture. Such architecture separates two main concerns for portfolio
manager (PM) : price prediction and capital allocation. More than achieve a
high accuracy, a PM should increase profits when it is right and reduce loss
when it is wrong. Furthermore, price prediction is highly dependent of asset's
nature and history, while capital allocation is dependent only on analyst's
prediction performance and assets' correlation. Finally, we discuss some
promising technologies in the area.Comment: This paper replaces an old version of the framework, called mt5b3,
